USNRT Development Program - Primers Squad

As part of its mission to develop and promote the fullbore and long range target rifle shooting disciplines, the USNRT is expanding its development program with the addition of a Primers squad in 2025.

Who are the Primers squad?  The primary purpose of the Primers squad is to provide talented shooters from other disciplines with access to elite level coaching and training in the fullbore rifle discipline.  Their initial goal will be to obtain a high standard of proficiency to meet the rigorous tryout qualification standards and become regular members of the USNRT.

Eligibility  Any individual with experience in any competitive shooting discipline is eligible to apply, there is no upper age limit.  You should be able to demonstrate shooting or coaching potential, especially in a team environment, and have a strong belief in your ability to become a high performing shooter.

Program   The squad will be managed by the Development Director who will be the first point of contact for training activities.  To fully develop Primers in all aspects of elite level team shooting, they will train with the USNRT on and off the range and have access to sessions on position, goal setting, physical and mental training regimens, team drills, and plotting.

After acceptance into the program, the Primer will be assigned a mentor, an accomplished USNRT shooter or coach, for support and advice when not participating in squad training events.  The squad member will be expected to compete in a minimum of one Top Tier domestic competition and two local/regional competitions annually.
